Bride Story

Jyn Colegado - Gasmin

January 7, 2016

Ramada Plaza Bangkok Menam Riverside,

Bangkok, Thailand

Jyn is more than just a friend but also a sister. We often go out a lot when we were younger, hangs out with us even if it meant that she has to be a fag hag for the night. Well, she has always been and she's always game for whatever her gay friends will drag her into. Yours truly met Jyn through a friend and we instantly clicked. She also a "bisaya"  and it's practically a miracle to meet a fellow "bisaya" when you have lived in Manila for a very long time. She was born to parents who are missionary workers and it has always been Jyn's character to be compassionate and very kind to her friends and to others. She was also very understanding and was never too quick to judge.

Jyn has always been very  private with her love life and she maintained a long distance relationship with Eddie for a very long time. I can't remember how long but if my memory serves me right, she and Eddie have been together for more than 5 years or maybe 10 before they got married. Eddie is a Filipino-American and was born and raised in the US. They both met in school when both of them decided to enroll at the Adventist University of the Philippines in Silang, Cavite for college when Jyn was returning from Bangkok and while Eddie just wanted to try things out here in the Philippines. And you know, the typical thing happened, boy meets girl, got to know each other and their love story began. It was not easy. As you know, a long distance relationship does not always work as society would have said it but it did for them. They were inseparable in college however Eddie had to go back in the US and that's where the long distance love affair began.

Jyn and Eddie were both faithful to each other, they never gave in to peer pressure even if there were many instances that they were together alone and they both observed the Christian point-of-view and values strictly even if they are both open-minded and very much influenced by the Western culture. That alone is very impressive. Only a few couples can do that now.

So going back to the wedding, okay so she announced to a very few close friends that she was getting married. And as Miranda would have said it to Carrie Bradshaw in the Sex and the City movie, she was the type of girl who is and was never going to be in the "getting married" file. She was excited and of course as usual, with close friends as brides, it was very special. She approached yours truly to design her dress. That time she was already based in Bangkok and she just came home to meet me for a consultation. Jyn was very straightforward with what she wanted and for someone like her who is always on-the-go and loves to move around literally, she wanted something simple, sexy, a little less fancy and functional. She did not want anything big and wanted a removable light skirt so that she can wear the inner dress for the after party. It really was not a surprise because me and Jyn loves to party A LOT when we were younger and for someone like her who has lived in Bangkok for so long, partying should be second skin for all the young people who has already lived and is living there. So yours truly designed for her a full lace dress with a short skirt for her inner dress. The inner dress was in a 3/4's sleeves and a Sabrina neckline adorned with lace patchwork. For her removable skirt, it was in a full-bias cut made of layers and layers of soft tulle since she just wanted it to be light and fluid.

Their wedding ceremony was very romantic as they celebrated it in a hotel right beside the Chao Phraya River overlooking the beautiful Bangkok Skyline. It was very intimate with only their close family members, and friends from all over the world were invited as guests. The evening was capped off with a party on the same venue and of course a separate party in Bangkok that should not be missed specially for her visitors.

Both Eddie and Jyn are now based in Bay Area, California, USA  and is building a life together there. They still do not have kids however, they are just as happy as a regular family living the life of regular parents by raising and adopting a beautiful dog.

The exchange of gifts was very emotional for the couple as they gave each other the gifts that each of them wanted. The bride most especially was surprised as she received the same blue Manolo Blahnik shoes that Big gave Carrie on the Sex and the City movie from the groom.
