Bride Story

Rowena Nillas -Yabao

October 28, 2017

Sacred Heart Parish Church,

Cebu City

Some 18 years ago, Rowena and yours truly made an agreement that this designer will create her wedding gown one day. Back then, yours truly was just day dreaming of becoming a fashion designer sketching gowns on scratch papers here and there during down times in between class periods. One of those sketches belongs to Rowena. She kept the sketch until today and she never broke her promise to this designer and what was once a dream wedding gown became a reality. Far from the basic sketch initially made a long time ago, however, the core of the vision was just the same; that Rowena will be married in a beautiful hour-glass shaped ball gown.

Rowena and yours truly were "BEST FRIENDS FOR LIFE". She was a new student from Bukidnon who transferred to La Salle Academy in Iligan City as a Freshman in High School so that she will be closer to her older sister. We were seatmates and her loving, and nurturing disposition made her this designer's instant friend and eventually we became really close. She was this designer's constant partner on group projects, and we were instant leaders in any group endeavors together with our other close friends, we spend lunches together, cry and laugh together and basically do everything together in school and hang at our house. Although we did not graduate as classmates however, this designer everyday will go to Rowena's classroom to spend time and hang-out with her and our then Freshmen groupies to catch up after classes and just roam around the campus. Rowena know's everyone's dirty little secrets, not only this designer's however practically everyone. She's the best person to tell your secrets with because you can really trust her with them. She is also one with the boys, and she nearly got expelled for covering up with the boys' mischievousness in the classroom. When she became class President on her Senior High School Year, she practically gave her homeroom the best time of their lives that until today, their class are still communicating with each other. Although we pursued different courses in college, we both went to the same Universities. So even until college, Rowena and yours truly still see each other when we both have the opportunity. Rowena never forgets her friends specially the old ones who became extremely close to her. She's easy to get along with, she's very thoughtful and sweet and even though people may misinterpret her happy-go-lucky attitude as someone who is carefree however, Rowena has the most empathy among our group of friends and is also the most matured.

Yours truly never imagined her to be married simply because it would be hard for someone to match her beautiful personality. She's perfect to fit that role of either becoming a nun, or an old-maid who would love to spoil her nephews and nieces with candies and chocolates and what not. Her love for life and for the world radiates so much happiness and optimism to the people around her that's why she is so much loved by everyone. She met Roland at work and in one of those happy occasions, they got to know each other and became really close. It was not your typical boy-meets-girl love story however, it was one of those love stories that you know right from the start will already have a brighter future. Both Roland and Rowena loves to travel, and are adventurous; so adventurous that they decided to find better career opportunities in Singapore even if they were both doing so well already in Cebu City. They are truly inseparable as one followed the other right away. They took the risk without the assurance of landing a job and fast forward, the Lord gave them so much more than what they have expected as a career path and this designer could not be any more happier.

The proposal was kept a secret but to a few as they love surprising everyone. The wedding plans took more than a year as it was not also easy for them to plan their leaves due to their work schedules. However, with her plans on the wedding dress, it was clear, she wanted it very ornate, and extravagant that showed refined taste. Make no mistake because while most Brides wants to feel like a Princess, she wants to look like a Queen who is very much ready to blossom. Her ball gown indeed was decorated with very ornate corded laces from the sleeves, and bodice, down to the hemline of the skirt. It was v-neck with a sweetheart neckline on the bodice. A low, basque waist bodice that is hour-glass in shape, and deep V-line on the back that added so much allure to the entire look of the dress. Lastly, she glittered like a star as her wedding gown was encrusted with rhinestones all over. Rowena's dress was one of this designer's best masterpieces aside from the fact that Rowena was extremely happy with her wedding gown. She looked like a Queen indeed with that understated elegance that showed so much maturity, security and inner beauty that radiated all throughout the evening. Rowena's natural beauty glowed all throughout the day and her beautiful personality shined through.

Their ceremony was very intimate as it did not only celebrate them but also celebrated their close family and friends. For those who did not make it, they sent their lovely videos to the couple. The program was not too long and the food during the reception specially the Lechon (traditional Filipino roasted pig) was fabulous.

Both Rowena and Roland are happily based in Singapore and still continues to love life as they still travel together and see new exciting places. They just moved to a new place and is expecting a baby soon. This designer could not be any more happier for his best friend for life Rowena as she was really a true witness to this designer's dreams and aspirations, also with his struggles and pains. She never left yours truly and we became even closer over time. May God bless them both always.
